Children's Room Renovations
Northampton, MA
The Forbes Library, a three-story stone Richardsonian Romanesque style structure on the Register of Historic Buildings, opened in 1894 as a public library for the citizens of Northampton and to serve Smith College. The building features glass mezzanine floors, expansive spaces, Guastavino arches, a presidential library, and an impressive art gallery. HAI Architecture undertook the original renovations to the lower-level Children's Room, which featured a reading nook and a series of fantastical rooms to stimulate the imagination and wonder of children. The design incorporated a whimsical, pedimented archway at the entrance and themed interiors displaying storybook scenes.
